Hiking Bag
Lightweight camping / hiking is an individual activity completed as a group. All items
will be carried by the individual. Nothing else will be provided whilst on the activity
other than water. It is important you bring everything you need to survive.
Only bring what is on this list. Anymore and the weight will be too heavy.
DO NOT BRING PHONES OR IPODS. CAMERAS CAN COME AT OWN RISK.
TICK when packed
Shoes (Supply Own) Indicates not compulsory
1 x Hiking shoes recommended (wear)
or 1 x Sneakers with good soles - do not bring shoes with worn soles
2 x Thick woolen socks (1 worn + 1 spare)
Clothing (Supply Own)
1 x collared T-Shirt (wear 1st day)
1 x collared T-Shirt (pack in bag for day 2)
1 x Fleece or woolen jumper (wear 1st day)
1 x pair shorts (wear 1st Day)
1 x pair pants (cargo or track - not jeans)
1 x thin waterproof jacket /poncho (not large puffy)
1 x set of thermals if really cold (not compulsory)
2 x underwear (1x worn + 1 spare)
1 x hat (wide brim preferred)
1 x beanie if cold
1 x plastic shopping bag (put all clothes inside this bag to keep dry)
Sleep (Supply own)
1 x small pillow or pillowslip to put clothes into
1 x sleeping bag - put in plastic bag inside lower part of pack - not on outside
1 x inner sheet for sleeping bag (not compulsory)
1 x thin foam mattress or small self inflating 4wd mattress
First Aid Kit - should only contain a few items (Supply Own)
The Leader in charge will have a larger kit
1 x Latex Gloves
A small number bandaids - combo pack good for blisters, scratches etc
A small guaze roll
1 x Trianguler Bandage
1 x Compression Bandage
Plus any other medical you need - Asthma puffer etc
Tent (Supplied by Scouts Group)
1 x hike tent between 2 (1 person takes poles - other takes tent)
Toiletries
1 x toothbrush
1 x small toothpaste
1 x small hairbrush
1 x lightweight towel (collapsable style)(2 Night hike Only)
1 x small pack tissues
1 x small roll toilet paper
1 x small pack nappy wipes (good way to wipe dirty hands or clean body without water)
Place all in a large, separate ziplock bag
Cooking (Supply Own) - include your own tastes
1 x small Bottle oil (do not exceed 100mL and keep in ziplock bag)
1 x small pepper
1 x small salt
any other flavourings or spices to taste (just keep it small and limited)
1 x sponge
1 x small bottle dishwashing liquid (keep in ziplock bag)
1 x face washer as tea towel
Place all in a large, separate ziplock bag
Other (Supply Own)
1 x torch only (headlight preferred)
1 x spare batteries for torch
1 x Box Matches (Sealed in plastic ziplock bag)
2 x 750mL water bottles - Prefer plastic (Coke or Gatorade bottles are excellent and don't leak)
only bring 1 bottle if you have a water bladder
1 x Pen
1 x pocket knife (Must stay in bag - not on person)
1 x metal cup (not compulsory but can be used to boil water/milk)
1 x knife
1 x spoon
1 x fork
1 x can opener (small style if bringing canned food)
1 x whistle (not compulsory but can be used to call for emergency if lost)
1 x small plastic trowel - for toilet holes(not compulsory)
1 x plastic shopping bag for collecting rubbish
1 x lip balm (sounds silly but this will make it more enjoyable)
1 x small tube sunscreen
1 x small tube Aeroguard or even better Aeroguard wipes

1 x Backpack at least 55L (must have waist strap)
1 x water bladder less than 1.5L (Not compulsory)

1 x Waterproof cover (comes with backpack) or garbage bag to go over
